Wow, I was surprised that this was a decent flick. Yes, the CGI effects were not terribly realistic but the story did justice to the Coasties. The whole Navy vs. Coast Guard thing was a bit overdone. In my experience the two branches do give each other a bad time with name calling and such but it is all usually good natured as both groups respect the job done by the other. I spent 10 years in the Navy and was temporarily assigned to the Coast Guard for two weeks so I do have some experience in this area.
It is a good story and though not my favorite actors, both Ashton Kusher and Kevin Costner played their roles well. I was glad to see the large number of active duty coast guard in the cast.
My email is out of control. Spam, newsletters, notifications and once in a blue moon an actual personal email.
My average per day is 100 spam messages, 20 asked for emails and now I have been shrinking these slowly but surely.
Spam. At this point my main email account has been compromised and is in the land of spammer mailing lists. Nothing I can do to change that except to change email accounts which is a pain in the butt to say the least. Fortunately gmail has a decent spam filter so I can just pop open the spam folder and make sure there aren't any false positives in the heap then do a data dump.
Prevention of the disclosure of my secondary email address and further exposure of the primary email has forced me to start using DEA's (disposable email addresses) for registering on websites and other places that "require" a valid email address. (many such places are just farming email addresses for their future marketing efforts) I am currently using www.spamgourmet.com as it is free, easy to use, and offers reply to: masking.
As for the rest of it... I spent several hours going through the inbox and unsubscribing to countless newsletters and such that I never get around to reading anyway. Of course I only use the unsubscribe feature on emails I know I actually subscribed to as spammers use the unsubscribe feature to validate email addresses. This alone has cut my actual email down by about two-thirds and, so far, made it quite manageable to get through the email quickly and keep my inbox clutter free.
This is a work in progress and hopefully I will keep my inbox manageable and turn it into a useful tool instead of a source of frustration. Helpful hints are available at www.43folders.com
